Jim Mc Donald born in Belfast in 1939. Jim Mc Donald was employed at the Harland and Wolfe firm as a technical illustrator after training as a draughtsman.
He later changed to freelancing in the same type of work, before returning to his first love, painting, in the 1980s.
It is understandable that Jim chose to depict shipyard workers returning from work at Harland and Wolfe as a subject. His pastel works are cleverly held together by unity of colour and an authentic sense of overall movement.
Occasionally horses or musicians are introduced into his compositions. Whatever his chosen subject, this artistís work is characterised by a commendable unity of colour and line, volume and light.
