James John Macken was born in Longford Town. In the 60’s he studied in the National College of Art and Design, Dublin.
He has lived and worked in Dublin for the last forty years.
He has had sole exhibitions in Dublin, London, Sligo, Longford and Galway.
Group shows include The Oireachtas Art Exhibition (’80, ’82, ’83, ’87, ’90, ’91).
His work is in private collections all over the world. Distinguished patrons include Mick Jagger.
Recently Presentation School, Terenure commissioned 16 of his works to be permanently displayed throughout the school.
He works solely with watercolours. He is an innovator in technique – it enables him to walk his own road, to find his real vision in the surprise of forgotten memories.
